Does anyone have a formula for the flow required to lubricate plain bearings?

What on earth do you mean by 'plain' bearings. How big? Roller, ball, babbit, what? If you want a specific answer you need to ask a decent question. What sort of machine? What type of environment? What kind of seals?

What, as in a steam railway locomotive, perhaps?
