You can burn plastic to make steam and then use the steam to turn a turbine and generator.

Pl follow the thread http://www.goodnewsindia.com/index.php/Magazine/story/alkaZ/

The concept here is not exactly generation of electricity directly from plastic, but converting plastic to fuel oil. A small step towards energy security, but a giant leap for environmemntal protection!

Been converting plastics and just about any other burnable waste to steam at the trash to energy plant in Union County NJ for the last 10 or 15 years. The plant used the Ogden Martin moving grate system. They also have a considerable amount of equipment to control ash and other pollutants. The biggest problem they have is not enough trash to burn.

I thought new york pays to have serious quantities of trash transported by barge to the carolinas or something ? Why don't we send it to you ?

In the garbage food chain (if you will) does it have to be a certain kind of trash, or need a certain level of separation/sifting to be dealt with accordingly ?

Since many plastics are hydrocarbons only, you can burn anf generate heat out of the plastics, which in turn can assist in rotating turbine to generate electricity.

But if the question is related to ability to convey electricity. The answer is yes it is possible. Many plastics are available which conducts electricity. Few of them comercially available in the market.

Certain plastics will generate static electricity when moved across other items. Just as combing a cat with a plastic comb can cause some sparks, especially in the cold. Check with Del, he is probably more familiar with this affect.

yes

first collect all the waste plastic at a place and make sure that there are trees near that place now burn the plastic and the steam and fumes evolved can be used to rotate turbine and the carbon dioxide released will be utilised by plant.
