The manufacturers of the diesel gensets can give you this information.

Here you go. Note the caveat at the end.

Now this is full load. Never been asked for no-load so until I need to answer that for my job, I don't know. Talk to Cat.

Approximately 0.335 pounds per HP per hour.

To be more precise it is 0.228 Pounds per H.P.Hr.

Devide this figure by 2.204 and multiply by1.34,

you will get Kg. of Diesel per kW.Hr.

If fuel is adulterated this calculation does not hold good.

To achieve an accurate, actual fuel consumption figure for varying loads use flow meters on your supply and return lines for a set time period, e.g. 5 mins. 15 mins. Do this with a stop watch to gain accurate figures. Subtract the fuel return figure from your supply figure and multiply your answer by your time factor to give you litres/hour or gallons/hour. e.g. if you selected a 15 min. interval multiply your answer by 4.

Alternatively take your return line back to the fuel inlet line before the flow meter, this way you only require 1 flow meter.

Another method is using a snap tank, again the fuel return would have to be taken back to the snap tank. With this method you are timing the time taken to consume a predetermined amount of fuel. Then calculate fuel consumption.

These figures are then compared to manufacturers specs.
