heat loss from non-insulated pipeline

08/05/2008 8:24 AM

what r probable ways and equations utilized to calculate heat loss from non-insulated pipe.

Data

-hydrocarbon in pipe is at around 300deg C its temp is measured at thermocouple at bottom of vessel where pipe originates.

-avg velocity and temp of air cud be assumed

-pipe dimensions and MOC known

if specific eqations used in industry are provided it will be very helpfull.

i am having two options either heat flow by conduction for which thermocouples error and very low delta t between liquid and pipe surface seems to effect the calculation and if i consider only convective heat tranfer from pipe surface to air determination of coeffcnt poses problem.... n m not able to find perfect eqation....
