calculation of bending stress for circular plates:

how to calculate the stress acting on the plate of circular cross section when a fatigue load of 320 kN force is acting normal to the plate cross section?

I can help you - with a little more information.

There are NUMEROUS equations/conditions for this scenario so to get the correct formulas I will need to know the following

  1. Is the plate of uniform thickness? What is that thickness?
  2. Is the plate solid through its radius or is there a hole in the center?
  3. Are the edges of the plate simply supported or solidly restrained?
  4. Confirm that the ONLY support of this plate is at its edge.
  5. What is the diameter of the plate?
  6. Is the loading in the center of the plate?
  7. What is the general radius of the contact that the force makes with the plate?
  8. What is the material of the plate?

I will await your response.

9. Is the load applied evenly on the surface (pneumatic or hydraulic pressure)?

10. Which direction: Radial or tangential

11. At which point? or just the maximum stress?

Any book on strength of materials can give you the answer. See the chapter on plates and shells. It's a good home work...

Yep - good homework.

I was going to use Roark's Formula's for Stress and Strain - a really good book - particularly concerning circular plates, but not everyone has it so I was offering to do the work.

And then I just stumbled onto this website:

http://www.roarksformulas.com/

I haven't looked into it yet, nor signed up for the free online software, but it may be potentially useful.

It's a good software. It's just like the book (I don't know anyone as complete) but easier to use (you haven't to write the formulae and make the calculations by hand)

.......... ????????? .........

Any luck with determining the info to my previous questions?
