Basic Akerman angled steering arms for a trike ?

08/08/2008 12:17 AM

Has anyone built a very basic system for a trike and would be nice enough to provide the set-up and correct angles ?

Thanks a lot

Philippe

Hello philgib

I've not built a trike, but have a read of this: http://www.hellbentcycles.com/Trike%20Design%20101%20%20part-1.htm

Also refer for helpful information here: http://www.tricycleassociation.org.uk/THFKendrick.html?PHPSESSID=81a2ebcfa5d332bc61b0bc4c29144ba0

Advise progress, or lack thereof, with

Kind Regards....

Philgib, Here is another: The Tri-Magnum, a reverse trike system based on either a Kawasaki KZ900 or a Honda Goldwing.Try typing in Tri-magnum on Google. Rather intriguing.

philgib:

Hello last trike I helped to set up the angles by using this as a guide. Explore this site.

The result was fantastic!

Not sure if this has already been mentioned but as a general rule a line from the center of the rear wheels (or center of a single rear wheel) should pass through the steering arm and the lower ball joint. good luck!

This sounds almost too good to be true but for sure I am going to try it as it takes only a very little extra soldering to do that !

Thank you so much guys

I hope that by "soldering" you actually mean "welding" - soldering would not be appropriate!

I apologise, that was a direct translation from french verb "Souder" which indeed means welding.

Thx for correcting my English.

I just done it and it works amazingly well. The trike can now smoothly and effortlessly rotate in a 10 feet-radius no matter how much weight loaded vs a 25 feet-radius damaging the scrubbing wheels.

Thanks a lot for the tip Guest ! I really appreciate.

Phil
