Monitored Generator Parameters

08/11/2008 11:03 AM

Hullo, please am really ignorant about generators but is there someone out there who can tell me the monitored generator parameters and their significance to the operating person and also some measures to be taken when the parameters go in abnormal stages.

That is a very vague question. It almost sounds like a homework project. The answer depends on so many factors:

  • What type and model of generator,
  • What type and model of drive,

These answers can usually be found in the generators operating manual. They usually have things such as engine speed, current, voltage, over voltage, power output, phase, and synchronization, earth currents, fuel, oil pressure and temperature, and coolant temperature etc. Responses of the operator depend on the situation and could be anything from fine adjustments, to emergency shut down.

Besides these general operating procedures, there may be additional requirements of the load that depend on:

  • What are they providing power for and what are the tolerances
  • How critical is the system

The answers to these are usually in the system specifications. they could be frequency + or -, Voltage + or -

Responses by the operator could be anything from fine adjustments to paralleling and synchronization of other prime movers.

There is far too much information to put here. If you have a specific application, maybe we could help more.

most of the generator should have running parameters indicator meters which can oobserved by operator ,ratherthan this generator protection reading the running all parameters like

1) differential current

2) negative Phase sequence

O/V and U/V

like this reading you will get in display

most of the time Operator can find diference in Phase voltage and current

if yourn generator is rrunning in parrel with grid

then these parameters are imp
