Malleable Plastic

08/14/2008 9:40 PM

I am looking for a malleable plastic, similiar to the craft foam that children use for projects, but has more strength than the craft foam. I need to be able to pierce it with a straight pin without tearing. Approximate thickness needed is 1/16 inch. I have looked at tyvek but it is too much like cloth.

I found a sample of a plastic polymer product I liked and sent it to SD plastics. However, they do not handle that type of plastic. Any other suggestions of a company I can send a sample to and find out the type of plastic and if they manufacture it?

Best regards,

Do you have any idea what the piece that you had was used for?

Ain, or Aim plastics, and United States Plastic are smaller companies than SD, but they are the only ones I know of. Have you Googled plastic polymer?

Why don't you try Dow Chemical?

If you like this thickness , have you tried TPU ?

Or if you don't need that elastic , may be you can try neoprene (so called Jersey lanminated with Neoprene, it is used for diving suit.

Both of them are expensive, 2nd one will be more better according to your requirements.

best rgds

Thank you. I liked those plastics but too pricey. I need something more in line with those plastic bracelets that people wear to support their favorite cause. But slightly eaiser to puncture with a needle. Actually like those puffer bouncing balls that kids have as toys. Kind of in between the bracelet and the toy. Any clues what those puffer bouncing balls are made of?

Depending on how "malleable" you need it, FoamCore might work, too. It's stiff, but bendable to a degree...
