Fired Heaters Insulation

08/15/2008 9:59 AM

My name is Rafael Teraoka

The company I work for offers a number of fired heaters and we have clients throughout Brazil.

I was wondering if you could help me on two problems that we are trying to handle right now:

1) How to determine the insulation thickness required for different parts of the fired heater (radiation and convection section, and stack)

2) How to determine the outside casing temperature (cold face temperature) when using a certain insulation thickness.

We don't have any kind of software or method to determine the answer to these issues and I'll be more than grateful if you could enlighten me.

Best Regards,

Rafael Teraoka

Insulation/heating/cooling calculations can be quite involved - however, there are also approximate/rules-of-thumb calculations that can be done. I am not going to get into the theory involved here, I will just offer this.

I have heard/read about this free insulation program - I have not used it before, but you may find it useful. I have even seen it discussed on another thread in this forum:

Hi Rafael, I am a consulting engineer in the USA helping companies with heating, insulation and heat transfer problems in furnaces. I get paid for my services. Since you work for a company in Brazil which has clients throughout Brazil, may be your company would like to use my services as a consulting engineer. Their cost will be to meet all my travel cost and cost of boarding lodging and stay in Brazil. A daily stipend to meet incidental expenses will be appreciated. I have worked for United Nations Industrial Development Program, Asian Development Bank, African Development Bank as as TECHNICAL expert. Please visit my site: www.technovations.ws. I can help your company. Dr. Ram K. Iyengar technovationsintl@gmail.com
