Hello Guest,

  1. You need to advise your Location and Country.
  2. You need to advise the particular Operating System + version number at your computer.
  3. You need to specify the particular Operating System + version number at the other computer.
  4. You need to advise Firewall Make, version Numbers at each end.
  5. You need to advise Antivirus utilities + version numbers used at each end.
  6. You need to advise Antimalware utilities + version numbers at each end.
  7. You need to advise re both Internet connections: Dial-up, ADSL, DSL, Cable T1 etc.
  8. Any other pertinent information.

Reply here, with the above Specified, and perhaps you may receive a proper answer.

Kind Regards....

Hello, Guest,

Welcome to CR4. We really do need the information that Sparkstation asked for. Each operating system, and different versions of the same operating system, sets up Remote Desktop in ways that are different enough so that Computer Techs are always 'in school', whether they attend a traditional University or simply read the Microsoft manuals.

You might try a crack at it. Go to the library and see if they have "Windows Server 2003 training kit" or "Networking for Dummies" or even "Windows XP Professional Self-Paced Training kit (1 volume + C/D), I own all three and several others. I can't narrow it down any further for you because I don't know your machine.

Please provide the information that Sparkstation asked for and we might be able to set up a "step by step guide for the perplexed"

I also encourage you to register and get an ID, you will get a lot more responses that way. Some people on the site don't respond at all to the Guest account.

Either way, good luck

/Ari (Orpheuse)

Hi Guest,

A good starting point would be to access Windows help (go to Desktop & press "F1") and type "remote desktop connection" and hit return.

Windows help system should tell you everything you need to know for a simple set-up.

You will need Admin access to both PCs.

Hello Ian

The "Guest" may not actually be using Windows Operating System, or the other end may also not be using Windows O/S.

If both are using Windows O/S, of exactly the same Type and Version, there are still other factors which need to be known, to establish a reliable "remote desktop connection" with each other.

That's why I asked for a reply, with the information required.

I must admit at this point, there is one further detail which needs to be supplied, and without that, the system will not work:

Both Computers must be running on the same Language base.

It is not possible to set up (for example) two PC's, one with Chinese Language, one with English Language, as they cannot actually "talk" with the other, in a proper manner to use "Remote Control Desktop" facility.

I should have remembered this well, when several years ago, I attempted to do this for a Italian student in New Zealand who used a German Language Laptop, and then I tried with a remote Chinese Language Laptop, neither could establish a "Remote Control Desktop", nor the reverse to/from my PC, which presently I am using on WinXPPro, English Language version.

That appears to be a problem which goes back to the Tower of Babel.

Kind Regards....
