Selecting AHUs - Effects on Total Load

08/20/2008 8:31 AM

A health care project with several FAHUs with 15% ACPH has been selected based on AHU Coil EAT 43C DB/18C WB and LAT 34CDB 99%RH for a room condition of 24C DB 50% RH. Based on this, X gpm water flow rate has been estimated and a Y TR capacity chiller has been selected to handle this load.

The writer commends that LAT 34C DB will become 40C DB inside the room against required 24C DB. To maintain 24C DB inside room condition, AHU Coil LAT should be 13C DB and to achive this, u need to circulate not only more gpm of chilled water but also need more ROD cooling coil. With total wrongly selected EAT and LAT AHUs, u have to install additional chillers to meet the extra load. EAT to be taken is 45C DB/18CWB and not 43CDB/18CDB and this also increases the load.
