LCD Monitor Repair??

08/24/2008 12:02 PM

I've worked on a lot of equipment over the years (radio, TV, cars, medical devices, etc.) But LCD is rather new to me! I have one that I connected to my laptop, as I switch the video to it, the dasplay will look fine for 4-5 seconds then drop out black. I can switch back to the laptop, then back to the LCD and again displays for 4-5 seconds.

Is there some signal regulating/processing that just can't keep up? I may just trash it since replacements are now quite inexpensive. But you know service people - we just want to FIX it!!!

Thanks!! ss

Have you tried holding the Fn +F5 keys? Do this twice in a row and see what happens.

Does the LED on the monitor show it is getting a signal? If it does, this is usually caused by backlight failure, either the bulbs or the inverter. If it shows a standby signal, turns a different color or flashes, then it is something on the main logic board. Bad capacitors have been known to cause this and it is easily fixed. There is a shop in Carrolton, Texas that I can not remember the name of, that does LCD repair. Most of the time it will be a flat fee unless it involves the glass. You can send it to them and they will give an estimate on the cost. I believe they boast somewhere over 80% of the fixes they do are $50.00 plus shipping. Thats with labor. Good luck! LCD's are not easy to fix at times.

You could always contact del the cat and use his test proven, failsafe method of repair:
