What Do You Think?

08/25/2008 8:49 AM

Hi all, This is maybe a silly question but what do you think about this man's book? http://www.earth4energy.com/?hop=mcolella Would it be worth it or just another internet stunt?

I myself would like to grasp a little more on the wind-turbine concept and, as he puts it, know how to get batteries for next to nothing (free he says).

It sounds too 'easy', too glib, too commercial and the book sounds too expensive to me..

Building an efficient wind generator can't be done in 'on the weekend' as one testimonial suggests.... maybe you can erect one or assemble it from a kit of parts...but that is entirely different.
Building an inverter isn't something the layman can do safely...(I'd be wary of the high voltages and currents...and I design electronics for a living!)

I'd say most of the information is probably out there on the net for free if you care to search for it.
If you want to really build a wind generator the Hugh Piggott's books are probably much better value.

Finally not all sites are suitable for wind or solar power.

Other than that, it's probably great
Del

Don't bother wasting your money. Most if not all the information being sold here can be easily obtained for free over the internet or by asking either here, on other forums dedicated to it or at your local solar or wind turbine supplier. Even streaming video and step-by-step guides from building a solar furnace right up to a full solar or wind turbine installation (which isn't rocket science).

Seriously.

Send ME $200 and I will tell you the secret of getting almost free batteries by going to the local scrap yard and buying car batteries, I....oh...... Forget I said that. Send your money now.

Thank you both (Del and Jack of all trades).

I just wanted your opinions after it had popped up for the third time yesterday and my curiosity led me to ask - is it worth it? And it does sound a little too much for a book that might be just a booklet.

Since you told me the secret (where to get cheap batteries from) can I keep the money?

I am looking at some of the options but somehow find it hard to make a decision what to make of it all.

Sure, as I said the information is freely available.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is...

easier to watch Discovery channel there is this show about some guys going cross-country in a Bio diesel bus. They meet a lot of "green" energy users.

There was this item about some guys who lived in a house made from re-cycled material and they made cheap wind turbines. they showed how it was done.

Forgot the the name of the show though

Here is a good (and free!) website demonstrating homemade wind generators.

Well, as has been said many times, many ways There's no such thing as a free lunch!

By the way, since I've been using this blog and reading the the wise and witty sayings and information provided herein I'm learning more and more about less and less that soon I'll know everything about nothing!

When in doubt, trust your meter.

Comrade..., I tend to agree with you however, until somebody show me a better than this site I'll continue to put up with it.

Most of the time only the ones who bored out of their minds and hanging out for a little gos, fun, joke, or just trying to have a fun filled tea-break at work will be the likely regular visitors of this site.

Sometimes, I wouldn't mind to have a free lunch but you won't get it here, I know by now. Those who originally set this blog up thought that people can exchange nobel ideas but it is b...hard and often without a success.

In the meantime 'every little can help' if you get it at all (mind you this time I did get the confirming answer to my question I as after) but, if you still have doubts about the help you get here then keep on searching until you get the desired result.

I know those who work on state of the art designs and leading edge technology will never share their thoughts on this blog for all sorts of reasons.

I like your meter!!!
