Timing adjustments on older equipment are commonly required in order to return timing to correct specs. As multiple components wear, the accumulated slack shows up as retarded timing (relative to original specs). Crank to crank sprocket keyway, crank gear to cam gear, cam to distributor gear, contact set rubbing block, all could affect timing. And all wear would retard timing.
I now have the model nombers, and they are as follows:6.5 NH-3CP7120140, AND SERL. NO. 0475948140. The reason I want to addvance the timing is, I am trying to run it on HHO gas. in other words: water.
Five different design Onan generator service manuals. But not a NH series among them. I contacted the local Onan distributer today and asked for a copy of the service manual. I hope to hear back from them on Tues.
Lets just save those thanks until I actually give you something worth having.
6.5 NH-3CP7120140
6.5 This is the rated output in KW
NH This is the general family of styles of generator
3C This is a further refinement of the way that a series NH was built. An example of this would be an RV designed generator, or a standby generator, both of which started with the same basic engine design.
P7120140 is the exact combination of parts used on the generator.
It might help to trace if you can tell me somethings about the genset. How old? What was it originally used for?
The above site will give you a good deal of information on your generator.
From the info you gave me I have decided you have the early NH series. That is not bad, I have an older AJ series that runs at 3600 rpm. Your motor is still in production. And parts are plentiful. If you need more info let me know.
