SATA Hard Drive questions

08/26/2008 4:05 PM

I have an HP dc7100 cmt and want to change the master hard drive to a larger SATA drive. Is there a problem using a 3.0 SATA in my system? Do I have to use a slower SATA in order to expand the drive. This computer has a 3.0 Pentium 4.

Thank you for registering, it makes helping you a bit easier!

What motherboard do you have in that computer? Does it already have SATA connectors on it? If not, adding a PCI adapter board won't speed up your data access times. Going to SATA 3 would be a bit of a waste of money, if all you are trying to do is increase your data storage capacity.

Please go here http://majorgeeks.com/download4181.html and click on one of the flags to download everest home edition to find out all your system's particulars and post the results here. Then we can better advise you on how to do what you want.

Charlie at this point the HP is not connected to the internet. It does have four onboard SATA connectors. Can you give me the steps I need to follow to get Everest home edition ported over to the HP?

Thanks
