Al P/M lubricant

09/01/2008 10:56 AM

Hello everybody

I wanted to ask about a proper lubricant for hot pressing of aluminum powder!

It is clear that I am not using lubricant cause there is no step for burning it, on the other hand I find it extremely difficult to get the powder inside a cylinderical die cause the powder takes upm very large volume.

So what should I do, get the powder inside the die with any other way or use a lubricant in a hot pressed powder?!

thank you in advance

Try vibrating it. Vary the frequency for wide-range of particle sizes, or tune the frequency to fit a powder of uniform grit. A "lubricant" as an addition to the scintering mix would likely reduce strength. A volitile carrier which could be evaporated prior to scintering might reduce voids, but avoid flamables. Think non-hydrocarbon, non-water,simple light weight formulas such as Freon.
