generator-transformer connection

09/02/2008 2:30 AM

dear sir,

we face a problem that our generator output terminal has a phase sequence U-V-W (clockwise) but the transformer terminals arrangement is W-V-U (anticlockwise) with a vector group Dy-11. so my question is that whether it is possible to supply the transformer directly from the generator output which has a clockwise direction of rotation and what will the impact on the transformer vector group.

thank you.

The Us, Vs and Ws are only there as an indication as to what is connected to what. It is common practice to change the direction of rotation by swapping two phases over.

Be aware that no matter what is labeled on transformer, primary phasing against generator and second power source should be performed as well as phase rotation check when replacing existing equipment.

This also applies when commissioning new equipment.
