Labels adhesive compatibility with Rubbers

09/04/2008 8:36 PM

i AM having problems with a sticker label that is barely adhering to a rubber. The problem is that if we use a stronger adhesive it will leave a residue and we dont want that. Does someone know an adhesive for labels that wont leave residues but it will adhere with good strenght enough so it does not fall with normal handling?

The rubber is THERMOLAST K, TCGMAC TPE, SHORE 60A

and theres another version on GLS, 2250, TPE, SHORE 50

It appears that you are using a TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) and not a true rubber. Go to this site and click on adhesive in the drop down menu.

Your list will be waiting. Good luck.

The surface and material type are causing your problems. The primary goal you identify is a label which adheres temporarily and remove cleanly from rubber. This is possible (although not easy) but more information is required:

  1. What is the durometer of the rubber?
  2. Will the part be subject to any stresses prior to label removal and after label apply? This includes temperatures, humidities, mechanical stress? This greatly impacts the resolvability of the adhesive.
  3. What is the time frame between label apply and finally removing it? (Average and maximum)
  4. Is the mounting surface flat and clean?

If you can answer these questions, I can probably reccomend a label for you

1.- I don't know the durometer but let me investigate

2.- Yes, it will be subject to stresses. The product is handled until it gets to the box, and can also come from china to mexico to give you an idea of how much it is handled. It comes sticked to the product and each has its individual bag.

3.- The label will be removed once it is delivered to the final user. It is to know if the product has been used.

4.- The mounting surface is not completly flat but clean I guess.
