check valve in pump discharge line

09/05/2008 9:54 AM

Can i place check valve in pump dishcharge line. If yes, what type of valve can be placed in vertical & in what conditions.

What care should be taken while placing Pressure relief valve on vessel/Pipe.

What are all the criteria for FLARE pipe rouing and tower piping.

<...place check valve in pump discharge line...>

It is widely done, especially where there are multiple pumps. Select a valve that is suitable for the forward flow, line pressure and back-pressure. The wetted materials must obviously be suitable for the fluid. Talk to a valves distributor locally.

It sounds as though the first thing to do is to put the changes through a HazOp study.

You need to include a lot more info. The best and most durable check valve that can be installed in any position is made by "Drabla" they are stainless steel and are steam boiler feed water rated.

Vertical Swing type with swing opening on pressure and close when pump stops.

For relief valve -pressure setting and return line to tank are important.

Yes a valve can be place in a discharge line. If the the vertical run after the valve is of some great length in would not recommend the use of Y or swinging gate type check. The weight of the water will cause the valve to slam shut can be quite damaging to the valve and noisy. Use the spring type. Would also install valve above and a union below it if in a long run for repairs or replacement.
