Intel Quad - Core Microprocessor

09/28/2006 12:49 PM

That's four microprocessors per chip. Intel says we can expect a 70 percent performance increase over the single and double computing cores. The first chips will be included in server applications this year. Gamers should start seeing the chips in the first quarter of 2007. The new chip draws the same amount of power idling as the previous chips at full load. Incredible.

Has anyone out there tested these new chips?

I wonder why they developed this chip so close to realising the Cell chips. It's not like there is a real shortage of computing power in most markets. I know there is the impalpable march of Moore's Law, but we have to be hitting the limit of Rock's Law soon.

May AMD have the best and last laugh on multicore processors even if they lag behind Intel with this chip release.
