Spaceship2 Interior Shots

09/28/2006 3:24 PM

From the "Too cool for school" category, Richard Branson has release Virgin Galactic's concept interiors for their spaceship. Reclining couches and the fact that everyone has a window seat are a nice touch, especially considering the price tag of $200,000 (USD). If you don't have the $200,000 to buy a ticket you can apparently trade in your frequent flier miles from Virgin Atlantic. It take 2 million miles to trade WAY UP.

Boy, imagine how fast your frequent flyer miles would clock up.

Actually, if SpaceshipTwo follows a path like that of SpaceshipOne, you'll "only" go about 60 -70 miles (100 -115 km) up and back. Worse, the starting and ending points may be at the same site, giving you a net zero distance, for frequent flyer milage calculations. Some airlines have a default minimum number of miles for any flight (or at least used to); this is probably all you'd get! An orbiting trip might also have a common beginning and ending location, so despite traveling hundreds of thousands of miles, your frequent flyer milage basis is zero.

There's a pretty cool cgi video on YouTube of a spaceshiptwo flight. You can also get to it from the popsci site.
