I guess you can imagine that an epoxy paint is "pure" epoxy, and can be one or two component. The two component is typically tougher, more chemical resistant and more chemically crosslinked than epoxy-polyester paint. The latter is a modified epoxy that is usually easier to apply, may have better abrasion and wear resistance, but not the chemical (gasoline, oil, solvents, etc) resistance of an epoxy paint. The quality and which company manufactured each type of paint can be the deciding factor. Both types are typically better than a straight latex or enamel paint and also more expensive. Typical applications for epoxy paints are garage floors, industrial floors and equipment, etc.
