ERW (Electric Resistant Welding) is one of the ways the seam in seamed pipe is joined.

OZZB, I'll bet he meant seamless pipe.

Original poster: ERW pipe is made by welding flat rolled steel "skelp" into a tubular section, using electrical resistance as ozzb has described.

Seamless pipe is made by piercing solid "round billets" on a pipe mill.

I have no idea at all what you mean when you say SEAM pipe. Seams would be rejectable imperfections on the product in my experience.

There are a number of applicable standards that could apply, depending on the country of your project.

ERW is welded and SDeam pipe is known as "seamless pipe" no welded seam - one piece.
