Locking Arrangements

09/29/2006 12:31 AM

We are making a road tanker for water supply using filament winding in FRP. We have designed a mandrel on which the winding have to be done and it has got approval from our chief designer, but the problem we are facing due to the number of bolts using for flange connection. Nearly 400 bolts which takes away so much time in the production. The flanges are curved and having a length of 1500 mm. How we can connect our flanges with out using bolts and if we can reduce our locking time to 30 -45 minutes it is better. can you have any suggestions?.

Hi there,

I have understood some of what you are doing and gather that the problems is within your production of a road tanker connections to the Mandrel, although when searching mandrel's on wikipedia I find that madrels come in many form and for many uses.

I also can not imagine that that given the size you have shown 1500mm that you would be able to use that many bolts as this mesurments is actually 1.5 meters and possibly refers to the length of the madrels axle rather than the circumference of the face to be bolted to or other.

If you could post me a photo to E mailto:mdbobbo@treezone.co.nz of your bolting mechanism that you propose to use with the said 400 or so bolts, I will have a better chance of solving your probelm.

I also wonder as why such a long and so many bolts? Are for fixing the mandrel with face plate of winding machine?

If you are sending the photo of bolting arrangement to Mr. Mdbobbo, please send me a copy as well, let me also put in our thinking to this…
