Infra-red quartz halogen elements are quite commonly used for just this purpose, as well as for other heating purposes....

I think the ones in my oven / grill are rated at 2 kW they would easily fulfill your requirements.

But! you're not having my oven / grill

John.

The watt density ain't there for quartz heaters for a 60 CC cavity, if it's a cube. If it's long and skinny, then a significant portion of the volume is taken up by the tube.

You might also check on glow bars; a ceramic/metallic element which will heat up to the temp you want, and they're not as fragile or expensive as quartz elements.

What are the dimensions of the cavity?

Bill,

I think he meant 60 cm cubed, not, 60 cubic cemtimetres. Unless it's a specialist hot dog oven!

eh?

cc = cubic centimetres = cm^3

60 cc is only a small volume?

I can't see the original question now.... but I thought the question was about a volume of 60 cc's ?

John

I think the 60cc 60mL volume is a bit small. In the old units that's an oven 1.5in x 1.5in x 1.5in. I suppose it would work if you were cooking rice grain by grain.

According to my ruler-scale, 30cm=approx. 1 ft; so this oven would be about 2 ft X 2 ft square, right? I'd say (4) 250watt infrared heatlamps aimed at a flat black heat absorbing exterior (sealed) would heat the box (aluminum or copper) to pretty hot on the inside in a short amount of time..

Some trial and error research would have to be done to get the exact temperature I would imagine

Have to disagree Steve-o....

The query is for a volume of 60 cubic centimetres.

By your measurements of 2 ft by 2 ft the area is 4 sq ft

or 30 cm x 30cm = 900 cm^2

60 cc = 60 cm^3 = 4 x 4 x 4 cm assuming the space is a cube shape.

As near as makes no difference.... I think we have a problem with which units the questioner is using?

John.

I think what the original question meant to say was

603 cm meaning a box 60 x 60 x 60 cm

which is a volume of 216,000 cm3 or 216 Liters

instead of 60 cm3 which is 60 mL

Maybe a.kandil can verify this?

Okay, I meant to say 2ft X 2ft X 2ft .

He said FOOD OVEN which by common sense would have to be larger than 60 mL volume. Any comments a.kandil? Are you still there?

While you are clarifying the question:

*What is the desired time/temp. curve for the process?

*How well is the cavity insulated?

*What is the specific heat, & mass of your product?
