Calculating the $per/kw for a diesel generator.

09/10/2008 12:17 PM

Hello all!

Can anyone help me with my question I am confronted with regarding thecalculation for the cost of running a diesel generator versus buying from the grid? I do not know if my formula is complete or accurate? I have tried to calculate it but my numbers do not make sense. I am using the following equation:

(Fuel $/gal) * ($ per/gal) + (anual service contract/8760) = Wattage

"anual service contract price divided by 8760 to get the $per/hour"

The utility is @ 0.09 kwh.

....Is this formula even close?

Thank you for the help.

Mike

It me again....I need to correct my posted formula:

(Fuel $/gal) * (Gallons consumed) + (anual service contract/8760) = Wattage

Thank you,

Mike

Assuming the annual service contract includes any repairs, oil, filters etc

The formula needs to be adjusted by the following. Total costs divide by total wattage (in kilowatts) will = the total cost per kilowatt

Techno,

The service is a flat price for the specified services to be preformed on a quarterly basis. Any additional service, beyond contract, required is T&M :) So i will break the anual contract down to hours.

Thanks for your help!

Take care.
