Nipple for inline connections?

09/10/2008 11:54 PM

Pl. give me suggestion about ;

1. Can we use Nipple for inline connections or only for vent, drain ,instrument connections ?

2. We use Nipple in place of pipe. Why?

Give logic so that I can convince others.Pl. give reason other than this - Nipple is a readymade item.

Thanks

sachin

A nipple is a piece of pipe with threads on either ends, right?

There are short nipples, normal and long nipples. Additionally, much shorter piece of same purpose is called: male connector (which is made of cast/forger/coated iron/steel).

These are not alternate for pipes but fitting for connections. In place of 3' long pipe for an application, one should not choose to make a same length with nipples and couplers. This could be quite possible but includes lots of threaded joints and parable leaks.

Not in all cases all the nipples furnished with threads on either ends. Any nipple can be Threaded, Beveled, Plain or a combination such as:

A. Threaded both ends (TBE).

B. Threaded one end & beveled other end (TOE/BOE).

C. Threaded one end & plain other end (TOE/POE).

D. Beveled both ends (BBE).

E. Beveled one end & plain other end (BOE/POE).

F. Plain both ends (PBE)

In addition, there a special fitting called Nipolet (belong to O'let Family, its my expression), which have a groove weld connection to the run and furnished with an end may be threaded, plain or beveled to be connected to the branch.

Note. Nipple is characterized by its assembly with 90o to the run, where Nipolet by its inclination by about 45o to the run.

Nipple is characterized by its assembly with 90o to the run. This is what I was asking for.

Thanks
