Neutral grounding resistor

09/11/2008 2:35 AM

Dear sir,

In the 400/220 kv substation, a shunt reactor with NGR is used in 400 kv long distance line. From the name plate details of the NGR, it is single phase, rated current is 10 A, short time is 60A/10 sec, ratio choke voltage is 4kv rms, impedance at 75 degree is 471.35 ohm.

In this NGR is called Neutral Grounding Resistor or Reactor. From the above name plate detail, how to find the value of resistance or impedance. what is ratio choke voltage. How to find the charging current for the above mentioned system? And what is the procedure to design a NGR. I request you to kindly clarify.

You need to be clearer. Is it a neutral grounding resistor with a built-in (parallel-connected?) reactor, or is it a neutral grounding resistor with a built-in grounding transformer.

There is generally only a little information on the nameplate for these devices. There is not enough information provided here or on the nameplate to answer your questions.

Consult the manual and test report documentation that was supplied with your NER for the information you require, it should all be in there.

Could u give a more detailed description to understand the same.Where is the reactor and Where is the NGR located .Is it a combined equipment or a reactor Ngr used in combination. As regards the values u can refer to the test certificate or reports if availble or write to the manufacturer giving the sl. no.
