Open / Close Drain Vessel

Dear All,

Have you came across open / close drain vessel in the process industries? What is the used and different of each vessel?

closed drain means the system is sealed and can be exposed to pressures up to the highest pressure that the drain is connected to. The fluids flow because of a higher pressure of the inlet than that of the outlet.

An open drain is always open to the atmosphere and the highest pressure would be the height of a coulum of a fluid abve the exit. This system flows be gravity or sloping of the lines.
