Selecting and buying a Falk Lift Truk

09/12/2008 6:01 AM

Dear All,

I want to buy a Falk Lift to our factory.

We will use it to lift 1 tone (two 500kg bag once) & hope to operate it continuously 24 hours of the day.

But sometimes it may use to lift machineries which may weigh abot 2 tones.

What kind of Falk lift truck we should have & what are the specification we should consider before buying them.

Also we hope to buy it from China as it is cheap in China.

Please advice me.

Thanks in advance.

Okay,

You need to look at the maximum load you are looking to lift and the distance from the mast or reach, and then it will need to comply with the Fork Lift Trucks lift chart. If you are planning to use an attachment for lifting the 2x 500kg bags then this will need to be added to the lifting weight.

Then you need to determine which type, electric, gas powered, petrol(gasoline) or diesel. This will depend on your factory environment and available energy/fuel source. Electric might be a disadvantage due to having a recharging station.

As to its manufacturer, you will need to way up reliability, service and availability of parts against the purchase price.

Where are you located?. It is prefered to buy Fork Lift Truck from local mfr/agent so that servicing is not a problem. You will need 2 Tonne Fork Lift. You should decide if you should select Battery/Diesel operated truck in consultation with local agent and depending on type industry where you would use the truck. There are many famous make availble in the market such American,Japanese,British,German but you have select the one which is sold localy.

TOOZ is right on! Consider the fuel requirement first, since you can get sizes of fork lifts to fill your needs with any of them. Electric and propane are best suited for indoor use due to no/low exhaust. Gas (petrol) and diesel are better for outdoor, or intermittent indoor, use.

Electric units take awhile to recharge, so a spare battery package or two (large and heavy, need a hoist to change out) is needed for constant running. And while charging, they give off hydrogen gas, so no heat, flames, or sparks!

Propane tanks can generally be carried by one person (but not too far) and changed out on the floor if needed. But the storage is only far from heat, flames, or sparks, so relatively easy.

Gas and diesel require tanks, pumps, hoses, meters, and someone to refill them, plus the above-stated fire restrictions, and the potential for spills, overfills, and leaks. But they do have their advantages. Main message here is, don't just look at a low purchase price, look at the bigger picture. Such as reliability in a 24/7 operation, availability of repair parts, complexity of mechanical design, etc. Remember always, "Cheapest" ≠ "Best"!

Absolutely the most important consideration is part and service in your area. No matter what your new machine is powered with or rated at, it's worth little more than scrap when it is down waiting for parts.

The best (toughest) machine I have ever seen is a HELI. Oddly enough it is made in China. But it falls back to the parts issue, you need to keep a forecasted maintenance program and a huge parts stock.
