GMDSS Version Transceiver

I'm looking for this GMDSS Version transceiver for capital equipment for my company (that I worked for). I know that GMDSS stands for Global Marine Distress & Safety System (and I know it's a communication device), but not really sure of the meaning. And, I couldn't figure out what the things look like. Maybe someone might help me on this or provide me the details of where I could find this things...
