Who does 3D animation?

09/19/2008 12:54 PM

I want to have some basic 3D animations done for my product that show 2 basic things.

The product in action, and the parts coming together from an exploded view that would be used as as installation aid.

very simple.. only a few parts, and a single motion for the operation.

But who does this work? I don't.. my CAD guy does not..

..if i found someone independent that would be great.. i could use a lot of work down the road.

there's a video of this product on this web site.

www.jetrack.info ..it's that easy

Hello JE,

If you have the CAD files of the product I could put together some simple animation like you see at www.versalures.com

you can e-mail me from the site if you still need the animation.

One of the best animation technologies I've seen is available to Solidworks users who use the program to assemble and disassemble complex assemblies.

Solidworks comes with a basic animation utility but there is a more advanced animation program, that adds capability.

I'd check with any authorized SolidWorks Value Added Reseller. If they can't do it for you, they can likely recommend a customer who can.

I suggest you visit Solidworks web site for more details.

If you have the CAD files I will give it a go, otherwise try TurboCAD with their animation lab plugin, if you don't have the CAD files send me some sketches and give me a few days.

Hello there,

We have done some animation, we use the mechanism extension for Pro-Engineer. We would be happy to look at the CAD that you have, we can likely help you out for free to a certain degree.

Please send your 2D or 3D file to engineering@canstampconsulting.com in a .zip format.

The CAD file needs to be 3D, preferably parasolid x_t, at least let me know what formats you have available. If you do not have 3D CAD parts, please send detail drawings, or 2d cad files of the parts in question, and we can look at creating 3D from it, this is relatively easy in Pro-e. We can also make use of Solid Works if that format is required. The resulting file can be similar to an .avi movie file. Once we have connected the assembly it is relatively easy to create exploded view drawings from this assembly, as well as detailed views, sections etc.

Mirco.

Thank you!

I have a busy weekend, but I can see there are some good options.

I'm going to have to get the current CAD files for starters.

Thanks for the response.

What CAD system do you use? if it's 3D you may well be able to do the animation yourself.

Just to add to the mix of what's already been presented:

Anyone who uses Autodesk Inventor would be able to do the animations (avi output) in Inventor Studio. It's very sophisticated for a built in animation tool in a parametric CAD system. It even includes the ability to animate the cameras.

Also, users of 3D Studio Max could do it, and on the lower end, there are tons of amateur and pro Truespace users who would jump at the chance to do the work cheap or gratis.

Good luck,

Hooker

Greetings

I saw your video on the website you listed, and based on that, I can probably whip something up just to give you a feel. I see the hook and tensioning devices for your setup, and can make something that will be graphically close. If you want more detail, then we can address this later. I have maintained a full license for Solidworks and have done some technical presentations as you asked for. BTW, before you start giving your cad files away, get something in writing pertaining to confidentiality to protect yourself.
