Self Support Innerduct Cutting Tool NEEDED

09/19/2008 3:07 PM

I am in search of a tool that will cut Self Support HDPE Innerduct.

The standard slitters used to cut SS telephone cable are not strong enough to cut the HDPE type SS Innerduct. The blades just break.

Many of our employees are cutting themselves on various types of knives and blades trying to make this cut.

Is there a knive out there designed for this job or is there anyone else that would help me develope this knife?

It is needed desperately in our field.

Thanks

Although I am familiar with HDPE, I do not know what sizes the self support innerduct is, or how it is constructed. Have you seen the PVC cutters? Some are just a 1" wide steel blade that intersects with a plastic arm. But others are all metal, and rely on a ratchet action to pull similar blade against a steel arm.

Thanks guys but I am aware of the duct cutters.

The cutting tool I need is to seperate the steel strand from the innerduct itself and peel off the plastic from around the strand.

If anyone is aware of such a tool I will be forever greatful.

Thanks,

Neal Gracey

It is a hand tool you are needing then?

I suppose slicing the plastic circumferentially then grasping the end in a hand drill chuck or collet? May it come off??

The site you posted shows three tools available for slitting the cable length ways. If this is not what you need, I am afraid I have an overload of confuse.

I am curious what is the reason you need the plastic peeled back?

The reason I need the plastic peeled off is to dead end the strand with a preaform dead end to the pole.

Hello Neil,We would be interested to look at developing a custom cutting tool. Please send a sketch of the duct outer and inner diameter size you are cutting, as well as the amount of "peel" distance you need. We would also require the make and model of the cutter you are currently using which breaks the blades. We may be able to supply you with custom replacement blades that will cut and not break. Please forward this information to engineering@canstampconsulting.com, and we will see how we can be of assistance.

Thank you Neil,

I had some time to look at it and send you a reply after dooing some CAD. Let me know if a gripper / cutter assembly strikes you as the way to go.

Mirco.
