Hi-temp corrosion resistor

09/19/2008 3:15 PM

Can anyone help me find a hi-temp corrosion resistant spray or brush-on type. We need to cover welded sections on large truck exhausts.

I have used a stainless steel coating on the exhaust pipe of an 8V92. I have it on a 1999 truck, and has lasted well considering I did not prep the pipe. I got it from Eastwood. They are big in vintage auto repairs. Have you tried Exhaust header paint?

Zircoat, a newly developed Zirconia-rich, high temperature, erosion/corrusion resistant ceramic refractory coating compound said to with stand temperature up to 1700 deg C may solve your problem. http://www.jyoticeramic.com/Jyotipdfs/zircoat.pdf will give you further details

If you chemically pacify the weld it should not need any protection, stainless steel works best fully exposed to the elements.

Aluminum provides good corrosion resistance, looks good, and can be plasma sprayed.

Would a zinc-rich coating (cold-gal is a common synonym) spray-on finish work for you? I'm not sure about its temperature parameters, but it's highly corrosion resistant.
