Has anyone out there sucessfully run SolidEdge v18 on a Windows Vista machine? It seemed to load with no problems, but it will not recognize the license. Any ideas?

Have you contacted Solidedge? Assuming it's a legitimate copy I'd try that first.
Vista is running into performance and reliability issues to the point where a number of new PC and laptop manufacturers have stopped offering it, returning instead to Windows XT.

Yes, it is a legitimate copy. Yes I did try SolidEdge tech support. The party line is that V18 is not certified on Vista (which I knew), which means they will not give any assistance in trying to get it to run. Not that it won't run, just that they aren't interested in helping.
I have heard the issues w/ Vista, and have to say I have not experienced any of them. I've been running it on a dual-core HP laptop for over a year without so much as a hiccup.
The SolidEdge issue has come about because a new client of mine has some pre-existing native SolidEdge files they want to use as the basis of a new design. They agreed to install SE on my computer with one of their dongle-driven floating licenses so I can reference the SE files for my work. I may have to pick up a bare bones used machine that I can run XP on. Thanks!

Using the Xp will save a lot of grief. At this moment I'm awaiting permission from our IT dept to run a dual boot so I can actually continue to work. That could be an option.
I have many versions of Solidworks, having used it since I abandoned Pro Engineer in 1995.
Of all of them, the one I prefer the most is 2001. It still has all the power of current versions but without the burden of gimmicks they felt compelled to add in their attempt to stay ahead of Solidedge.
I mention it here because it too has its favorite Operating System. It runs fine on Windows XP but it likes Windows 2000 Pro a little better. I can see it in the pull down icons.
The way I got it to run well in Windows XP was to tell XP that with the CAD software it should emulate an earlier OS. That cured 99% of the problems.
Not having used Vista I can't say if there is such an option but on my Windows XP, when activating a software executable, if I right-click on the executable file, scroll down the list to "Run As" and click on that. You are then given the option of which version of Windows you wish for XP to emulate.
It's very effective! With any luck, that will cure your ills.

Something I forgot to mention was that Solidworks balked during installation using Windows XP in it's native mode.
I actually had to install the software using the "run as' mod in order to get the modules to install.
I need not do this with later versions of Swks that were written in the newer OS.
