VALVES INSTALLATION ON FCU

CHILLED WATER PIPING IS OF BLACK CARBON STEEL, SO WHILE INSTALLING BRONZE GATE VALVES IS IT COMPULSORY TO USE THE DIELECTRIC UNION ?

As I have been told (and learned the hard way) anytime there are two dissimilar metals in contact with each other you will eventually get corrosion and failure. So to answer Your question ,is it compulsory , most if not all plumbing codes require some sort of insulator between dissimilar metals. YES use an insulator between the two.

After I posted My reply I realized that brass or bronze valves are used with black pipe on natural gas lines with no problems. I should have pointed out that water acts like an electrolite where as natural gas does not.
