Which Cars are Using Piezo Fuel Injectors?

09/22/2008 3:07 PM

Hi, I am looking for the cars that are using the new piezo fuel injection system. In particular I am looking for cars that are common to the USA so I can get hold of one of these injectors. So if anyone could supply the following I would be most grateful: 1) List of cars using piezo injectors (preferably in the US) 2) Part numbers of the piezo injectors 3) Places that sell these injectors

Some BMW models have them, you could call a local service department and see if they can help you. I think the majority of piezo injectors are on European diesel engines.

First off, you haven't mentioned why you need such a list. I could understand a specific application, but such a general request is hard to make sense of.

Next up is that you want to know which engines use piezo injectors and the easy answer is, any of the new direct injected engines, both gas and diesel.

Part numbers?? Do your own leg work, find out about the new engines and what spec the injectors are vs what you need. A partial list of companies using engines with piezo injectorsin the US and world wide are Ford, Dodge, GM, Toyota, Honda Nissan, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Volkswagen/Audi.

Remember, all the new injectors are shaped to put the fuel charge in a specific location in a specific pattern, so you have to know the basics of the engine design the injector is in because if your usage is too far from the original, you could turn what ever you're working on into a pile of scrap quite quickly.

Where to find them is easy. Try the OEM parts department or NAPA, Part Source, Jegs or any other parts shop you can think of, just take money. The hard part might be finding a parts person who can do more than look up part numbers. My experience has been that parts people and their systems do best when you have conventional information such as make, model and engine, so be preapred to wait a lot and do a lot of explaining.

Maufacturers include companies like Bosch, Siemens and Denso.

Good luck

Thank you for your replies.

"First off, you haven't mentioned why you need such a list"

I am looking at taking the technology and applying it to another area. The reason I am after one is so I can take it to pieces to see how it works. I will not be using it as it is, if that makes sense.

I have already done some work on it, I know about the manufacturers but I'm having trouble locating the injectors. Most places I have rang up do not know what I am talking about so I was after makes and models of cars in the USA so I could ask for an injector for a particular car.

Unfortunately I am not up to date with which cars are using which injectors so didn't want to spend too much time searching when someone with more knowledge might be able to point me in the right direction.

Are you sure that cars in the USA have the piezo injectors? I managed to contact Delphi and they told me that none of their piezo injectors were being used in the USA.

I will try some of the auto places that you have mentioned but I would still be grateful for anyone that could post which cars in the USA have these injectors on.

If direct injection engines are equipped with the injectors you desire, there is a 3.6 liter V6 being used by GM in a few of the upscale models that offers direct injection. Not all of the 3.6 engines are direct injected. The direct injection engine is rated at 230 HP, or very near this figure. This is a start. I will try to find out more tomorrow.

May be in any spare parts shop for diesel injection you could look for,are used,i'd say in any common rail system so if no cars in the states see for pick ups;are used too in pump injectors too and are a very different thing: even when you could get both easily if it is for other application which those were created for take care of that or you will spend money for an anuseful thing. So try to say what you want do.

All new German manufactured diesels use Bosch common rail direct injection diesel systems with piezo-electric injectors because only piezo injectors can respond fast enough to inject 6-10 separate injections in a 3 milisecond period. These multiple injections are the primary reason that new diesels are both much quieter and cleaner than older diesels.
