Can anyone tell me if or what relation does Dimethylbenzene and Benzene have?

Sorry, It requires some Organic Chemistry knowledge and without it will be harder to make sense.

1. Both have Benzene ring

2. Dimethyl benzene have higher molecular weight

3. Since Dimethyl benzene has higher molecular weight, it's boiling point most likely to be higher than benzene

dimethylbenzene is a benzene ring on which two of the hydrogen atoms have been replaced by methyl groups. Orientation of these methyl groups change the properties of the molecule slightly in that if they are next to each other (ortho), seperated by one carbon in the ring (meta) or on opposite sides of the ring (para) then their chemical reactivity and preferance for substitutions is changed. Physical properties are also slightly different, but not significantly so.

As compared to Benzene, its a different animal alltogether. Benzene vs. DMB:

Specific gravity 0.879 1.053

Melt point 5.5 C 56 C

Boil point 80C 212C
