International Threads for Washing Machine Hoses

09/25/2008 10:31 AM

Hello all,

We're stuck here in the US scratching our collective head from trying to find out the thread on household washing machine supply hoses in other countries. Would all you international CR4-ers please chime in on what's used in your neck of the woods?

Our crack(ed) research team has worked out that the supply side is 3/4 in size, but the thread still eludes us. NPT? BSP? LSD? IOU?

Also, is the washer side size / thread different than the supply side?

Thank you. Is this true for Europe and Asia both?

I keep forgetting that you're "another country" up there, neighbor!

I recall as a youth finding myself somehow in Canada, where I wandered aimlessly into a Harvey's and got my introduction to poutine, which I apparently ordered accidentally and upon receiving looked at it in utter horror. Probably much to the great amusment of the staff and customers.

That's okay - I remember my first time finding myself in the States and I ordered a beer. You could imagine my reaction when they delivered water.

In Australia we use 3/4" B.S.P. now 'metricated' to 19mm. However, a lot of appliance manufacturers supply hoses with a 1" B.S.P. nut and tail with a reducing bush to take it back to 3/4". Almost all domestic taps ( faucets ) are 3/4" b.s.p. / 19mm but some people opt for a larger pipeline for greater flow and of course a larger tap. For this reason garden hoses come fitted with a 1" ( 25 mm ) nut and tail and reducing bush.
