Watts to Power an Automobile

How do I go about calculating the power needed to propel an automobile in watts.

thank you.

Also looking to possibly hiring an electrical engineer that has experience in developing wind generators. Located in Massachusetts.

Electrical engineer? Most of a wind generator is mechanical. The generator itself is nothing really special.

But electrical or mechanical people with wind experience are hard to find....

Of course how fast do you want to go, wind resistance, rate of acceleration, etc. but if you want to cheat a little, shop European car models I believe there rated in kilowatts, and horsepower.

Personally I wouldn't settle for any less than 410,300 watts. Of course the newer models are little slicker than mine.

What to do with 549HP? To move a car really FAST! I too would prefer 410Kw but I will have to settle for the 262Kw, that I have, right now. That is, until I can afford to install a Vortech

Hello Dumitu and IanR:
Here in California we have a shortage of electricity. So I just want to help Southern California Edison look like they're making improvements. They can use my 410KW to look good on paper, you know a little creative accounting.......... OU don't know about creative accounting, you know like the creative accountants in the companies that want to borrow /steal $$700 billion dollars, so they can pay for their cars, and they have 50 kW more than I do.

But that's why horsepower is the proper way to rate an automobile engine. Mercedes has 626 net installed horsepower. I only claimed to have 550 hp. On paper it looks like the Mercedes has the advantage. But in truth the horses were bigger 38 years ago .

Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster: New high-performance roadster ... is powered by an AMG V8 compressor engine delivering 460 kW/626

Indeed HP is a better system in my opinion. But you original comment said 410.3 Kw, so I played a long.

BTW Have you heard about the new Mercedes Gullwing(Viper hybrid?) thingy?

Check this out: http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/spyshots/228468/mercedes_gullwing.html

Fun fact: the SLR has a top speed of 208 mph. At that speed, it will empty it's 21 gal gas tank in 19 minutes.
