Do we have a standard design standard/ document/ criterion for the ddesign of tailrace of a hydro power station? We have tailrace turning turning left immediately after the draft tube opening at 90 degrees. It is power station 4X76 MW with Francis turbines. The width of the tailrace is 16 m. The dia of runner is 2.1 m and the size of opening of the draft tube (for each machine) is : 2 openings of size 4.24 m X 2.3 m.

Excesive vibrations observed in one of the machines. Can this layout have an effect /

Any guidelines available?

I think you must have some standard for generated vibrations, if yes then what is the specified value for the vibrations and what is the observed value, and you should ask the turbine manufacturer for the detailed specs in case you don't have any specifications with you.

I could not understand how these dimensions are relevant with the observed vibrations,

Criterion of vibrations in machines is available. The vibrations due to defective erection is a different issue. What I am interested in is how to design a tailrace which does not induce these vibrations, due to reflection of energy waves from any structure or pulsations in the water path.

You will not have the vibration criterion of the machines at the time of design of the tialrace.
