Load Break Switch vs. MCCB

09/30/2008 2:32 PM

What is the Difference between Load break switch & MCCB? Is Load break switch smaller in size compared to MCCB.What about their breaking capacities?Which is better. Will someone post some links about LBS as it is completely new to me.

LBS is just a manually operated switch, it does nothing automatically. An MCCB is a circuit protection device as well as a disconnecting device, so it senses current and responds to overloads, operating to interrupt the flow whether you are there or not. The two devices are used for different tasks in an electrical circuit.

So your question is a little like asking to compare motorcycles and bicycles. They do different things, but one function is the same in that they both roll on 2 wheels.

A load break switch (LBS) is a manually operated device capable of breaking the load currents. LBS in most of the cases are provided with a built in fuse to protect the same from a fault condition. But they are not capable of judging and clearing overload conditions. The MCCB is a device which operates automatically and is capable of sensing overlaods and fault conditions and clearing the same by operating and opening the MCCB. MCCBs are much smaller in size as compared to an LBS (when seen at ratings of 400A, 630A)
