power transformer terminals connection

10/01/2008 2:45 AM

dear sirs,

we received from the manufacturer a transformer with predefined terminal marks with phase rotation W,V and U. but when we placed the transformer unfortunately the terminals could not alined with the generator phase rotation which is U,V and W.

so, our problem is that whether it is allowed to connect once determined from the factory terminals with reversed phase sequence or not. meaning that for instance to connect W terminal of the transformer with U out put terminal of the generator. and what will be the consequence if we do the connection during sychronisation of the tansformer with the system.

Hello "Guest"

Please advise the following:

  1. Phase angle of the transformer
  2. Diagram of transformer, primary and secondary, schematic with terminal letters/numbers marked
  3. Is there a rotational problem with equipment on the secondary?
  4. Is the transformer secondary to be paralleled with any other transformer secondary, that other transformer also supplied from the same primary supply bus.
  5. Other pertinent details, advise please.

Kind Regards....

guest; that should correct your problem! reversing any 2 phases will change rotation.

the transformer will not know the difference

A little more info will enable right answers. Is the transformer used to step and feed power to grid?or are u gnerating power and stepping it down for own use ?In any case check the phase rotation and interchange 2 terminals .

Dear Guest,

You can check the phase sequence of both the equipments viz. DG set and transformer. You problem will get solved by interchanging any two terminals of the transformer. You can use a phase sequence mete.

Are you trying to syncronise both the equipments? If yes, then you can use two lamp method to check you phase sequence.

regards,

Ashish
