Plug and Receptacle for Hazardous Areas

10/01/2008 11:14 AM

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone on here has heard of a UL listed plug and receptacle rated for use in a class 1, div 1 areas. This is for a pumping application in a wet well.

I found a connector that is CSA listed for Class 1, div 2, but am unable to use it since it is not appropriately rated or listed.

Thanks for you help,

Mark

There are few companies that do this. Vantage may be your best bet (and it's in the US).

Don't be surprised at the price tag, hazardous area plugs and sockets are rather expensive.

Thanks for the tip, I have contacted Vantage and am awaiting their response. I haven't worked with their products before, hopefully this does the trick.

Crouse Hinds makes alot of hazardous location electrical supplies.

Here's a link to exactly what you need http://www.crouse-hinds.com/catalog/PDFS/01007to01009.pdf

This is good for class1 div1....

I would love to use Crouse-Hinds since they're a local company. But after talking with fellow coworkers here, it sounds like we haven't had good success with these connectors in the past, I believe because of corrosion issues.

Hard wire it. That is the best way to do this.

Typically, this is the approach we take. But the client asked for a method which would allow for easier maintenance on the pumps. Seal-off fittings prohibit easy removal of the pumps from the wetwells.

Hubbell/Killark has similar equipment, both metallic and non-metallic enclosures, Class 1, Div. 1 and 2. Here's a link to their catalog search page for hazardous location receptacles.
