Vicki Colvin, director of the Center for Biological and Environmental Nanotechnology, is developing a standard terminology for nanomaterials. Colvin is concentrating on naming "bottom up" nanomaterials like nanotubes and quantum dots, rather than "top down" structures made using lithography. Want to help? It's no small job, after all.

Herding Cats

Almost every naming convention is fun to watch. Getting engineers to agree common terminology is like herding cats.
