Hello koshy.dennis

Perhaps you may wish to be more specific.

There are thousands of different <"....test and testing procedures in LV and MV systems....">

A different testing scenario for every relay, discrimination apparatus, alarm panel, alternator, generator, motors of various types and sizes, starters various, insulators, bushings, transformers, circuit breakers of various voltages and currents, various makers of all that lot,...the list goes on, and on, and on.

Kind Regards....

Hello again, koshy.dennis

Each Circuit Breaker, Relay, etc has a specific method of testing, to ensure is is fully functioning as intended by the Switchboard Designers..

Each equipment item has it's own special test procedures, written normally by the Makers of the Circuit Breaker, Relay etc.

Each equipment item as purchased from new will have included as part of the purchase, the Manual for that item, supplied in 2 separate copies by the Makers.

All subsidiary items will have their testing procedures included into that "supplied with the equipment" pair of Manuals.

So you want procedures for everything, which would be a set of manuals occupying thousands of feet of your bookshelf.

A test setup as the equivalent of "The Theory of Everything".

Perhaps you should, as I advised earlier, some specifics.

Example:

You have at your Location a Switchboard which supplies a soap works.

it contains Busbars, Isolation Switches, Motor Starters, Fuses, Transformers, Relays, and perhaps hundreds of other equipment items.

There will be various makes, types, varieties of equipment.

The Switchboard Manual should contain the details of all above, along with Maker's details of full functional testing.

Can you see that what you ask for is an impossible task, as nobody knows what you have.

A. Are you asking a theoretical question?

B. Do you have specific equipment in mind?

If (B) above, then advise the equipment, with the relevant details please, and you may receive a proper answer.

Reply here, with

Kind Regards....

Dear Koshy.dennis,

I endorse the views of sparkstation. The relay testing is such a specialised field that one need specified training to use these testing equipments and is beyond the scope of discussion in this forum as it needs systematic training and practical demonstration. The relay testing equipment manufacturers provide the operating Manuel and arrange training for operation and test procedure. The testing of over current relay, earth fault relay and distance protection relays are most important for substations.The testing and calibration of CTs PTs and measuring and metering instruments forms the rest of testing job . The procedure of testing of circuit breakers are different for each type. The testing procedure of ACB , OCB,MOCB,VCB and SF6 are totally different . So depending up on the available equipment the test equipment and procedure have to be selected.

Some websites you may check;

  1. http://www.maintenanceworld.com
  2. http://www.inspect-ny.com/electric

You will find downloadable books in .pdf formats.

Some topics listed below;

Insulation Tests

  1. Insulation and Continuity Testers:
