Distance protection

I work as power system protection Engineer. How do you select the scheme for applying distance relays . I specifically want to know the selection of choice between permissive under reach and permissive overreach . thanks and regards.

Dear ayubkseb,

Selection of a distance protection scheme depends on the system voltage , Type of transmission (OH / UG ), Length of transmission , and back up protection etc. Most of the time I used to depend on English Electric company( GEC Alsthom) and other manufacturers to get the details of their standard products to arrive at a suitable selection.

Please go through the following links probably you will get more information on the subject. Please discuss after going through it..
