Load Flow and Short Circuit Calculation

Can somebody suggest a software program for load flow analysis and short circuit calculations besides 'etap'. Are there any free programs available on the internet

Check out "ATP-EMTP". This may be what you are looking for.

I use Easy Power, but I've also done some calcs with pencil and paper. If you're just doing a few branch circuits its not that bad. There are a few papers and guides in the public domain that would guide you in making the calcs if you don't have any hard reference material.

A suggestion of a program for load flow and short circuit analysis is much more complex than just a link to a web site. While there are some 6 to 8 programs out there, they have significant differences in their strengths, weaknesses, and features.

Some of the questions you need to consider are:

  • Voltage(s) to be modeled
    • nominal voltage,
    • on a per-unit basis
  • Need to perform
  • Load flows
  • Fault-current calculations
  • Over-current protection coordination
  • Harmonic analysis
  • Loss Analysis
  • Voltage drop Analysis
  • Reliability analysis
  • Transient analysis
  • Motor Starting/flicker analysis
  • Capacitor analysis
  • Maximum busses
  • Multiple sources for wide area studies
  • Loop and/or radial analysis

Will you build the model in the software by hand, or from an existing data base (i.e., a GIS system), and will you need to integrate the software with any other data bases?

There are "free" programs out there, like ATP-EMTP and DSS, and programs that will cost you thousands of dollars.

A partial list of other programs is: EMTP-RV, CYME, Milsoft, PSCAD, Easy Power, SynerGEE, DlgSILENT, PTI PSS, PSLF, ...

Investigate EDSA. They have a full suite of software.

Talk to Schneider about EcoDial. Search the forum.

Try SKM PTW - DAPPER Only $1,500/-(50bus) & $2,995(100bus) with Comprehensive SC Analysis.

If you need, I can do it for a reasonable fee with detailed report writeup & inference. I have a licenses SKM PTW (Version 7.0)
