Tomorrow? Take it to a trusted service department.

There's lots more than a few tips will solve. Take a look at AutoZone's and others' Web sites to begin to get an idea of what you'd be up against. On the other hand, give youself a few weeks and it could be a good learning experience.

Also, you did not give the year model.

Hmm! Seems somehow a third-party Cookie request has started popping on this page since you pasted that "generator" replacement procedure...in which the pictures do not load. Maybe pasting the procedure as text and reposting is called for??

Depends upon how many times you want to do this tomorrow? Even brand spanking new Alts are defective often and you may not discover until day after tomorrow.

I'll wager the GM Mister Good Wrench is starving for some work, ya think

Some things are common to almost all alternator replacements.

  • Disconnect the battery. There are some over the counter memory retainers that attach a 9 volt battery to your cigarette lighter to retain your memories. They will save resetting your radio and clock, as well as saving the driving habits of you.
  • Draw a map of your serpentine belt, unless there is one there already.
  • Compare the alternator you bought ( You did buy the replacement first didn't you?) to the one on your car.
  • Plan on what you will need to remove to be able to replace your alternator.
  • Try out the tools that you will need for the bolts/nuts that you can see need removing. If the tool does not fit snuggly, it will never remove a tight bolt or nut.
  • If every thing still looks good, get a clean area to place the parts as you remove things. Lay everything out in the order of removal. If you have any doubts, take a picture, or many pictures.
  • Go slow, and steady. Remember that anything you damage, or break is going to cost you more than the alternator replacement would have if you paid Mr. Badwrench to do it in the first place.
  • Do not walk away from a bolt or nut until it is tightened correctly. Do not start a few bolts, and then plan on going back to tighten them later. You will miss at least one.
  • Do it once. Do it right, and be done with it.

If any of these suggestions do not make sense to you, Carefully consider having Mr. Badwrench do it.

Just a small addendum to this answer, I don't know this vehicle at all but some engines tension the drive belt by moving the water pump. Check this first as you may need to replace the pump gasket.
