The answer may well be in the question!

Check your rolling resistance by slipping it into neutral and see how it coasts.
If thats ok maybe you need to put an engine in the car, or some fuel, or tie a brick to your right foot?
Check the simple things...aircleaner, oil, plugs... put a lucky rabbit's foot under the bonnet (hood)... (That Rabbit couldn't have ben very lucky now could it?)
Take the Acme Anvil out of the boot.... and the luggage rack off the roof.
Untie the parachute from the rear bumper.

Make sure your right foot is not hitting the brake pedal when trying to use the accelerate pedal.

Magazines that do road tests on new cars publish acceleration figures. Compare your results to theirs. You may have just purchased a slug.

Is the emergency brake released?

Is there any restriction in the intake/air cleaner or exhaust/tail pie etc..

Did you add some diesel by mistake?

Is the accelerator cable stuck, stretched or otherwise entangled or malfunctioning?

Are all the vacuum hoses connected and are the connected sensors and devices working properly?

Is your seat adjusted well?

Sounds like my first suggestion, which I posted anonymously and which was "pulled", may have been too near to the truth.

Feel free to pm me for details, tho' you may have to give me your private e-address; I'm not sure whether CR4 PMs are vetted.

Honest, it wasn't that bad - it was kind of reflexive, as I drive a car which has elements that I was suggesting may have been the problem, but with which I'm generally very happy on grounds of reliability & economy, & it's even pretty quick off the mark for a 1.1
